The adventure of top level competition for years, has forged in me a very particular light on the role of sport and particularly in terms of solidarity with young people.
Today my motivation is to give the example as much as possible to the youth of my country, inviting them to get involved and to invest more in their own promotion through sport.
Morocco is a young country, populated by young people. The youth is in fact a tremendous asset and an exceptional wealth to establish a better future.
The athletic meeting of Tangier proposed today is a way of educating young people and parents of the values of sport by putting them in direct contact with national sportsmen as well as international. Even if the meeting lasts only for few hours, I am convinced that with the spectacle, the meeting will leave a profound impact.
This athletic event would probably contribute, modestly but surely, to the consolidation of the country's image highlighting and outlining the advantages of a region more beautiful.
Moroccans and athletics are experiencing for over a quarter of a century a particular idyll, as they know how to appreciate the gesture and effort of the athletes. So came the opportunity to express once again, but certainly for the first time in Tangiers. It is within this context that the meeting will take place on July 13, 2008 by the grace of God.
The sport is now recognized to be a fundamental factor of development, in addition to the unique opportunity it offers in terms of tolerance and therefore peace. Who better than Tangier and its people embodies that since the dawn of time?
My hope is to see Tangier and its people join this project and to make benefit the whole of Morocco in friendliness and happiness. It is also a way of thanking all those who have contributed to the holding of the event and to express the gratitude of all.
